Obituary: on 28 December 2008: In Loving Memory. The youngest of seven children, Emanuel was born in Naxxar, Malta in 1921 to Victoria and Carmelo Mula. In 1937 at the age of 16, he journeyed across the Atlantic on his own and made his way to the San Francisco Bay Area to live with his brother, Salvatore. Emanuel fought in WWII as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, building forward-area landing strips for Allied aircraft. In his spare time, he made toys to give as Christmas gifts to the orphaned children of England, for which he earned a special commendation award. Returning to San Francisco after the war, Emanuel become a builder of fine custom homes, theaters, shopping centers, medical centers, and many other buildings in and around the Bay Area. He was well known by both his peers in the local construction industry and by his long list of satisfied clients for his skill, generosity, commitment to the job, high level of professionalism, and solid work ethic. Emanuel passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 20, 2008 in the home he built for his wife for their first wedding anniversary. He is survived by Anne, his loving wife of 57 years; and by his children and their spouses; Michelle Mula and David Schultz, Linda (Mula) Bravin and Steve Bravin, Richard Mula and Alison Deeth-Mula; and Emanuel's grandchildren Adrian, Sean and Roxanne.
